In my opinion the major issues facing the church today are
Sustaining our ministry to current worshipers, providing a welcoming spiritual home to those in need of a new place to worship, creating equitable sanctuary open to all who seek the Word.
Why are you running for this position?
The Standing Committee requested that I consider their nomination for the Lay seat which is open at this year’s convention, and after prayerful consideration, I agreed to serve, should you elect me to do so. I believe that my interests, aptitude and experience, along with my inquisitive nature and strategic focus, well suits me for, and will contribute to, service on DioCal’s Standing Committee.

In my opinion the major issues facing the church today are
Churches have struggled during COVID and congregation life has evolved or changed. Congregations are slowly re-gathering, while some dioceses, institutions, and churchwide ministries are finding the need to rebuild. I support DioCal’s new formation initiatives like Vital + Thriving.
At the same time, it’s essential that we find ways to:
• resource and support congregations, so they can remain vibrant and vital; and
• provide ongoing pastoral care in our parish communities, especially for the aging congregations.
Why are you running for this position?
I’m filling an unexpired term on Standing Committee and am eligible for a full term. Having served as one of four co-chairs on the Executive Team during the VIII Bishop of California Search and Transition Process, I’ve led a wonderful group that planned and coordinated Search/Transition events around the diocese and among the six deaneries.
I hope to be a resource to the Diocese by offering my leadership skills and experience as we begin the discernment for the IX Bishop of California. Thank you for your support.

Major activities beyond diocese
Member of the Good News Garden movement and YIMBY (Yes In My Back Yard); *Advocate for inclusive housing, environmental sustainability, and need to address climate change in my community.
In my opinion the major issues facing the church today are
Faced with declining membership, aging congregations, loss of families and young people, the Church needs change and adapt; it is not the core beliefs of our faith that need to change, but the way they are presented and practiced. Our tradition allows space for many and diverse ways of meeting God within its theology and its liturgy. What if we focused on new and different ways of experiencing and embodying church that put mission and ministry front and center to meet the needs of our communities for the sake of living the Gospel?
Why are you running for this position?
This is a time of transition for the Episcopal Church, especially for our Diocese. It needs people who can confront the complex issues faithfully, and work collaboratively. I believe passionately in the possibilities of the Episcopal Church and want to bring my gifts of collaboration, innovation, and discernment to help our Diocese fulfil this promise. On Executive Council, I discovered a passion and flair for governance. I would bring that and an ability to listen deeply and think creatively to my work on the Standing Committee.

During that time I helped found the St James Food Bank and helped create the Confirm Not Conform (CnC) adult program and served as a mentor to the youth participating in the yoth CnC. I helped found and served as an officer with Crossroads Mentoring Program and served on the Board for over 20 years. I have served on the Board of directors of CURA Drug Rehabilitation Program for over 10 years. I have served in every position on the CURA Board including President, Vice President, Secretary and still serve as Treasurer for CURA.
In my opinion the major issues facing the church today are
Dwindling Membership: I believe this crucial issue can be addressed through better outreach to youth and the marginalized members of the community. Communication and Outreach: Our congregations and those outside the church should be kept regularly advised of the church’s good work through regular and vigorous social media postings and invitations
Why are you running for this position?
My executive service with the Deanery has given me a understanding of the organization and nuances of the Diocese. My participation at St. John’s has steadily increased my faith in the power of change and hope in the Christian message. I believe that service on the Executive Committee will allow me to help strengthen the church and thus better allow it to accomplish its mission of faith, charity and outreach.

Professional associations

•Chair, Board of Directors, The Street Chaplaincy
Summary of activities within my congregation / diocese
At Nativity, we are focused on spiritual growth for our members, outreach to our neighbors, sustainability for our church, joyful worship, pastoral care, Christian formation and fellowship. We have recently built affordable housing for clergy on our property and have created a memorial garden around our outdoor altar. Our primary outreach activities include The Street Chaplaincy, Health in Harmony, Sanctuary Forest, SF-Marin Foodbank, Marin Humane Society and Ritter Center.

For the Church Pension Group, I am a regular speaker on the Insights and Ideas forums. As Program Director for Ceres Investor Network, I manage a network of 23 institutional investors. Our global collaborations include Climate Action 100+, The Investor Agenda, the Paris Aligned Investment Initiative, and the Net Zero Asset Managers initiative.
In my opinion the major issues facing the church today are
The long term sustainability of our church depends on our support for the spiritual growth of members and neighbors through relevant formation programs, powerful worship experiences and embodied spiritual practices that include service, prayer and contemplation. Our work on racial justice and climate change is critical. Here in the Bay Area, we must focus on the housing crisis, poverty and violence.
Why are you running for this position?
Over the past year I have worked on the EC with Bishop Marc on property issues, priorities for the Expanding Horizon’s Campaign Funding and launch of the Vital and Thriving Congregations program. I have accepted the EC’s nomination for a new term and I hope to grow and contribute more as a member of the EC over a full term. As Bishop Marc prepares to retire and the search committee does its work, it is critical that the Standing Committee and the Executive Council continue to provide stable leadership for the Diocese. I look forward to continuing in this role.

In my opinion the major issues facing the church today are
The Episcopal Church and the Diocese of California continue to learn how to adapt to a rapidly changing world and rapidly changing needs in our communities and local congregations. We are also confronted with a resurgent authoritarian roiling our body politic, economic and social crisis brought about by the pandemic, and the growing impacts of a climate crisis. With these challenges confronting us, our heritage of faith and our democratic discernment in the Spirit have become all the more valuable: to our own need to adapt and to our witness to Christ’s grace in a chaotic world.
Why are you running for this position?
It has been an honor to serve as Secretary of the Convention for the past three years and walk with the extraordinary staff, volunteers — lay and ordained — and Bishop of our Diocese as we adapted Convention to meet virtually due to the pandemic and continue our faithful work together. I bring this experience back to run for another year, and would be honored to serve again.

My interests outside of the church have included leadership positions within Boy Scouts (backpacking trips, orienteering, and other activities), coaching soccer, and participating in the William & Mary Parent and Family Council. In addition, I have authored research that has been published by the Harvard Law School Forum on Corporate Governance and Risk and Compliance Magazine, in addition to other professional publications.
Summary of activities within my congregation / diocese
I served as Treasurer of the Diocese since October 2020, member of the Finance Committee since 2019 and as member of the Executive Council from 2017-2019 including as Chair and Vice-Chair. I have served in a variety of capacities as St. Stephen’s of Orinda, including the Discernment Committee, usher, Outreach, finance team for weekly collection/offering accounting, and hospitality.
Major activities beyond diocese
I have served or participated in Boy Scouts, William & Mary Parent and Family Council, and youth athletic organizations as noted above. For my consulting firm, I am currently on a second term on our operating leadership committee and serve as the financial matters partner.
In my opinion the major issues facing the church today are
We are facing a longer-term dilemma of expanding/maintaining our spiritual formation and strengthening our parishes and missions, with the challenges of declining average Sunday attendance and stretched endowments. The onset of the pandemic has made this more difficult. We need to ensure we continue to invest in and protect our facilities, particularly in light of climate change impact on our geography. We are in a position of needing to maintain and expand the creative use of our financial and fixed asset resources. In addition, we must continually ensure our clergy are properly compensated thru a comprehensive pay and benefits program.
Why are you running for this position?
I believe I can bring my understanding and background in financial and governance matters to benefit the Diocese and deepen my involvement with The Episcopal Church. I understand the need to listen carefully and collaborate while effectively addressing confidential and difficult matters. I hope to be able to provide trusted advice and counsel to the Diocese on financial matters.

Major activities beyond diocese
• President of the Oakmore Homes Association: my neighborhood Home Owners Association for over 10 years
In my opinion the major issues facing the church today are
COVID has significantly impacted my parish and touched other congregations. Pre-COVID, Sunday in-person attendance was twice current numbers, parish committees/guilds were active, our membership connected, children were in Sunday School and parish life was vibrant. While Zoom/Facebook Live allow people to connect virtually, nothing replaces the sense of community when we worship to the Glory of God in fellowship together in church. We must reenergize our ministries by:
• opening our hearts – welcoming our young brothers and sisters from our communities;
• build strong leadership that is relevant in today’s world; and
• embrace systemic change for more ethnically, racially diverse churches.
Why are you running for this position?
Being a 3rd generation cradle Episcopalian at St. Augustine’s, I deeply care about the future of our congregations and the Diocese. I’ve served extensively in my parish and the East Bay community sharing this unique perspective. As an African-American and Oakland native, our commitment to inclusion, Racial Reconciliation, and congregational growth will define us as Christians in Building the Beloved Community. I feel called to this ministry and will dedicate my voice, insights, and experience to our General Convention Deputation. For the diocese, I was lay alternate to General Convention this year. In the San Francisco deanery, I was president 2018-2019 and lay VP 2016-2017. I also facilitate the deanery coordinating committee to support sharing ideas and resources between deanery leaders.
Major activities beyond diocese

I review laws, design UX, coordinate engineers, and ensure data quality to make the whole thing work. I served as the treasurer to the measure X1 campaign in Berkeley in 2016 and spoke at the Unrig Summit in Nashville in 2019.
In my opinion the major issues facing the church today are
One of the primary issues facing the church today is sharing the Gospel in a way that can be heard. I think we have a vision of the Kingdom of God, but are we able to communicate it to people that aren’t already in our pews?
Diversity, equity and inclusion are an on-going challenge, and should be an expression of our values. Walking this walk is critical to being in community with each other. We also need to make use of our strengths as an institution while staying nimble and flexible to respond to the changing world.
Why are you running for this position?
I served as an alternate deputy this year and I hope to keep contributing to the General Convention deputation for 2024. I see a lot of beauty in governance, because our processes demonstrate what we value. I am truly excited by the opportunity to come together with folks from across the church, to wrestle with important challenges, and then to continue that work locally! I hope to continue learning and building connections while looking towards the future of our church.

In my opinion the major issues facing the church today are
Adapting to the post-Covid world. Engaging a public that has lost trust in the church along with most other major societal institutions. Fostering racial reconciliation and combating racism and anti-immigrant attitudes in church and society. Continuing work for women’s equality. Welcoming LGBTQ+ Christians, who often experience the church as a place of harm and rejection. Maintaining a clear identity as Christians while still welcoming all who wish to belong before believing—a generous orthodoxy. Maintaining our relationship with other provinces of the Anglican Communion while still doing what we believe we are called to do.
Why are you running for this position?
In two terms as a deputy, I have chaired and vice-chaired legislative committees focusing on Title IV as well as safeguarding. I have continued the General Convention’s work as a member of the Standing Commission on Governance, Structure, Constitution & canons. With many collaborators, I have sought to preserve and expand access to marriage liturgies for same-sex couples and to promote reconciliation for all forms of discrimination within church and society. Founder and Co-Chair of the Province VIII Educational Cluster of Stewardship, Planned Giving and Endowments Network now including representatives from 16 of 19 dioceses across the Western US and the Pacific to Taiwan.
In my opinion the major issues facing the church today are
#1 – Accepting the challenge to step back and better understand the church’s history in creating a social system that has produced gross inequities to large segments of society based on prejudices that are contrary to the teachings of Christ. Once full acceptance and recognition are achieved, what will we do about it and how best will we use our collective influence to drive change on a national stage.
#2 – Addressing the last triennium task force ‘Theology of Money’ conclusion that there is a profound disconnect between our theology of money and our actual giving as Episcopalians.
Why are you running for this position?
#1 – The DioCal Deputation needs team players in addition to leadership skills and passion for legislation. Sometimes, we are asked to cover areas outside our individual, core interests. There are many hours of meetings both before and during the convention. Members need to commit to full engagement with all of this. I am running for the third time with a full understanding and commitment for these expectations.
#2 – legislation that I supported (A070 – Creating an Online Stewardship Collaborative) was not adopted by the national church in Baltimore. We will re-imagine this legislation and adopt it in 2024.

In my opinion the major issues facing the church today are
How can our Church join with others as a voice for love and compassion in our damaged climate and increasingly violent world? How do we make progress on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, at home and globally?
Many of these issues are intersectional, and work on any one often affects others:
• Climate crisis, care of creation, and ocean health
• Gun violence
• Voter suppression and declining democracy
• Increasingly divisive public discourse, misinformation and disinformation
Why are you running for this position?
My ministry of public policy advocacy is how I live into my baptismal vows: to persevere in resisting evil, to strive for justice and peace among all people, and to respect the dignity of every human being.

In my opinion the major issues facing the church today are
We face change: Climate weirding intertwined with pandemics, global inequality, migration, war, religio-ethno-nationalisms, authoritarian threats to democracy. Where is the church? Many see Christianity as irrelevant or negative, yet hunger for community, joy, love. We must:
• Pray first, centering our joy of God in Christ, who calls us to love God in all people;
• Shift who “we” are, with racial/ethnic diversity at the center, and care for poor and outcast at the beating heart;
• Speak and act for justice, peace, human dignity, care of creation, working with people of all faiths (and none) who share these values.
Why are you running for this position?
I want our church to be known for following the way of Jesus, for our loving concern for our neighbors, for living and breathing the good news of God’s love for the whole world. I bring prayer, faith, passion, and vision to General Convention policymaking and church leadership. I’ve led General Convention work on racial justice (truth-telling on slavery, Indigenous boarding schools; Becoming Beloved Community); immigration (Dreamers, supporting binational LGBTQ couples, immigration reform); transgender civil rights; criminal justice issues (mental health, opposing solitary confinement), economic justice (worker issues, health access) and women and girls (reproductive care, sexual harassment and exploitation).

Youth Group Minister (2011-2020)
I retired from this volunteer position when the parish hired a paid children, youth and family (CYF) minister, though I remain active in backup support for our beloved CYF Minister.
Discernment Committee Member (2018, 2019)
Major activities beyond diocese
I am the Director of Vendor Management at Alameda Alliance for Health. Alliance is the County’s Managed Medi-Cal Organization providing quality healthcare for nearly 330,000 of the most disadvantaged residents. I have sourcing and oversight responsibilities for all the non-physician and hospital partners, including purchasing and third-party risk management. These pandemic years have been difficult for all, but more so for our most needy neighbors. I also concentrate my time to service. In April, when I learned of an organization founded to connect our sheltered neighbors and small restaurants, HelpBerkeley, I volunteered as a weekly driver including to shelters.
In my opinion the major issues facing the church today are
To flourish we must find ways to welcome young people, diversity, and families. I look around congregants age keeps increasing. The future depends on hearing the voice of everyone, including active representation of Christians raising young children, who are worried about the destruction of the environment and faith communities and how those are intertwined. Similarly, as I look around our faith, I am concerned with the lack of diversity. My youth group curriculum considered “being welcoming” where one youth would start by quoting our beloved “All are welcome” and end by recognizing the actual lack of ethnicity, race, gender, disability.
Why are you running for this position?
I am running in this election:
To keep the church oriented to be in service of communities we are in and adjacent to;
To keep the experience of families centered as the means of recruiting the future of The Episcopal Church;
To represent the 510 and its unique community; and
To help steer the church toward diverse and inclusive leaders and members.
Our faith has much to offer to those most in need. I would be honored to represent the Diocese of California and serve at the 81st General Convention in making strategic plans for the future of our church.

My own interests and pursuits include traveling across the country and the world (especially to England and India, where we have family), attending San Francisco Symphony concerts and Cal Bears basketball games, skiing in Tahoe, and brushing up on my piano skills.
As a parent of two young kids, my interests involve the latest season of Bluey, unicorns, trains, scheduling playdates, and hauling equipment for Saint Brigid’s first grade soccer team. Go Blue Angels!
However, my true passion lays in disability justice, disability advocacy, women’s equality, allyship with other marginalized and oppressed communities, and institutional change.
Professional associations

Summary of activities within my congregation / diocese
As an active member of Grace Cathedral since 2010, I have belonged to its Deanery Delegation, Greeters Guild, Congregation Council, and Social Justice Working Group. I have also served as a baptisand sponsor. My daughter attends Godly Play when we attend in person.
In DioCal, I served on Executive Council from 2013 to 2015, as an alternate deputy to GC79 in Austin, and a deputy to GC80 this past summer in Baltimore. In 2017, I was a TEC delegate to UNCSW61. You can find me on DioCal’s Task Force on Disability and Deaf Access and our Commission on Ministry (COM).
Major activities beyond diocese
My day job is in special education advocacy, and I am the Director of Advocacy for CASE, the Community Alliance for Special Education in the Bay Area. There, I get to develop and implement the organization’s policies and procedures and manage and support a group of seven advocates who are all supporting and advocating for families and students with disabilities in our Bay Area public schools.
My other major volunteer work is for P.E.O., a woman’s organization that provides scholarships, grants, and loans to women pursuing higher ed degrees. P.E.O. also owns my alma mater, Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri.
In my opinion the major issues facing the church today are
A need to confront and take action on what the Church will look like in five and ten years. How do we make ourselves relevant and welcoming to younger generations that are actively, rapidly turning away from Christianity? Are we affirming the dignity of all who come to our churches and Zoom spaces not just as worshipers and congregants, but also as employees, clergy, and community members? Are we meeting them where they are in their path, discernment, and call? GC81 task force reports will provide some insight in two years, but the need take action is local as well.
Why are you running for this position?
I began the work of institutional change in 2018, helping to create the Church-wide Task Force for Disability and Deaf Awareness. I built relationships across the Church and continued to network with other deputations, even with our newly-elected President of the House of Deputies. Grassroots organizing and coalition-building has demonstrated to be extremely effective in passing legislation and creating lasting change in our Church, and General Convention is where this work is largely done.
It would be a privilege to continue that work at GC81, pushing TEC to be a place where all are welcome at an accessible, equitable table.

As Evangelists and Instruments of God’s Reconciliation in the world, let us embrace our call by:

• building safe, diverse, inclusive, loving, spiritual communities for youth, young adults, LGBTQi+, and multi-cultural;
• recommit to Safe Church, Truth-telling, Reckoning & Healing work, while embracing Anti-Sexism and Disability Sensitivity trainings; and

In my opinion the major issues facing the church today are
At the 80th General Convention, we witnessed the passing of leadership to a new generation: more diverse than ever, and profoundly faithful to both our faith and to the need for adaptive governance as The Episcopal Church faces challenges and opportunities on multiple fronts: from the need to lead racial reconciliation, offer a counterpoint to the rise of authoritarianism, stand against violence at every level of our society, bring faith to the efforts for the healing of the earth, and declare the Gospel with compassion and a thirst for justice for all people.
Why are you running for this position?

I’ve also learned how much care, deliberation, study and deep listening goes into bringing legislation to General Convention, and I’m willing to commit to that work. In my opinion the major issues facing the church today are
In the present, nearly-post-pandemic era, the Church is experiencing (for good or ill) a paradigm shift in its self-definition and its praxis of what it means to be a worshipping community, to serve the Christ in one another in a multicultural and polarized world, and to spread the Good News of love and forgiveness. Some pundits and pessimists predict the Church will no longer exist in 50 years. As Episcopal members of the Jesus Movement, we can choose to answer God’s call to defy secular expectations and spread Christian love, kindness, forgiveness, and healing whenever and wherever we can.
Why are you running for this position?
After serving as a first-time Deputy at the 80th General Convention and serving on the Prayer Book, Liturgy, & Music Legislative Committee, I feel have a better understanding of how TEC governs and seeks to address the important issues facing the Church, the environment, and status quo that perpetuates injustice and inequality. If I am elected to serve again, I feel I will be a more effective and contributing member of our DioCal Deputation, as they prepare for the 81st GC and have the opportunity to elect the next Presiding Bishop.

In my opinion the major issues facing the church today are
The Episcopal Church is in the process of affirming its own DNA, and figuring out how to live into the reality of what it means to be the Episcopal branch of the Jesus Movement. We need to be an intelligent and consistent voice for faithful people in the United States in affirming the dignity of every human being. We need to continue to create space for meaningful work, faithful conversation about critical issues (social justice, climate, human rights, etc.) and joyful worship of God. If we do that, everything else will fall into place.
Why are you running for this position?
The Diocese of California has a dynamic deputation that makes its mark on the General Convention of the Episcopal Church. I want to be part of that–and I think that it is important that Deacons be part of the diversity of our representation. As a journalist, I am trained to ask incisive questions and assimilate information quickly. I also enjoy communicating the happenings at Convention back to the Diocese. In the recent past I was appointed to the General Convention interim body Task Force on Church Planting and Redevelopment (2018 – 2021).
In my opinion the major issues facing the church today are
Major issues of the church are: declining membership, declining pledges, the shock of COVID on our parishes, the continued polarization of our communities as responses to our secular lives. A response is to refocus on the teachings of Christ in building the Beloved Community, and sharing those teaching with the world (Evangelism!)
Why are you running for this position?

In my opinion the major issues facing the church today are
How will the church continue to proclaim good news in the world, as membership and participation decline? What practices, forms of ministry and structures will enable communities of faith to gather for worship and formation and to be sent to participate in God’s mission in the world?
The Episcopal Church is taking steps to understand and repent of its history of racism and its complicity in wider structures of white supremacy, but much work remains to build a more diverse church that welcomes people from different racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.
Why are you running for this position?
I care deeply about the church and its ministry and mission. I’ve been a deputy to five General Conventions and bring my understanding of the governance of the Episcopal Church and the legislative process, as well as my expertise as a scholar and teacher of liturgy. Summary of activities within my congregation / diocese
I head up pastoral care for St. Alban’s in Albany, CA. In the diocese I serve on the board for the School for Deacons and as Chair of the Executive Council for the Diocese of California. I I am a member of the Global Companions Commission. I am an active participant for Alameda Deanery.
Major activities beyond diocese
I serve as a representative of the Province VIII leadership network, I also serve on the board for the Association for Episcopal Deacons and as its chair of the young deacons task force. Outside the church, I am a City Planning Commissioner for the City of San Pablo. I am currently a PhD student at Florida Atlantic University in Educational Leadership focusing on servant leadership in the church. I also hold a Master of Nonprofit Management and BA in Communications.
In my opinion the major issues facing the church today are
Church growth and sustainability is important. The church is in rapid decline and many churches are in fact closing. I am interested in creating new avenues that can help churches reinvigorate and thrive so our churches will continue to do the work of Christ many years to come.
Why are you running for this position?
I think we owe it to ourselves to ensure new faces get to try different positions in our diocese. As a younger clergy member in our diocese I think it is important to allow roles such as convention deputation be rotated to give more people the opportunity to be a part of the governance of the church. I have have never had the opportunity to attend General Convention. I have had the pleasure of being a leader in this diocese and would love a chance to see what I can do to represent the Diocese of California at General Convention.

Interests
I love hiking (especially San Bruno Mountain, especially when the wildflowers are out), photography (especially outdoors), reading (sci fi/fantasy, other fiction, memoirs, and YA fiction with my kids– or on my own!), cooking and baking, listening to music, and exploring the Bay Area with my family. Even as someone who grew up in the Bay Area, I always feel like there is so much more to explore.

Summary of activities within my congregation / diocese
Since 2020, St. Aidan’s has pivoted our ministries to online, hybrid, and in-person modes, with our food pantry and senior luncheon continuing to serve our neighborhood. With others in the Vital + Thriving program, we are listening afresh for our call amid the pandemics of covid, racism, economic injustice, and climate crisis. I continue to supervise CDSP and DioCal seminarians and have taught courses in theology, pastoral care, and leadership at CDSP. I have served on the Commission on Ministry (2020-), the Sabbatical Task Force (2019-2020), the Ecumenical House board (2018-), and Deputy on DioCal’s General Convention Deputation.
Major activities beyond diocese
Episcopal Church Task Forces: Marriage (2012-2015); Liturgy and Prayer Book Revision (2018-2021); House of Deputies Committee 16 on Churchwide Leadership (2022)
I served among the Campus Ministry Coordinators of Province 1 (2012-13)
The House of Deputies LGBTQ Caucus, The Consultation (coalition of peace and justice groups in the Episcopal Church) & TransEpiscopal (transgender, non-binary, and allied Episcopalians)
I’m an academic/scholar as well as a priest, trained in early and contemporary Christian theologies and studies of women, gender and sexuality. I continue to attend conferences and write in these areas.
In my opinion the major issues facing the church today are
• The need to fully embrace God’s mission of restoration in the wider world and within the Church, working for racial, gender, and economic justice, and caring for God’s creation.
• Particularly in the wake/midst of covid, cultivating a spirit of open, creative collaboration among congregations, inspired by our baptismal grounding in the collective body of Christ.
• Evangelism and Christian Formation, particularly among younger generations who may not know of the Episcopal Church.
• Pastoral sensitivity and (when requested) care for those who may have had painful experiences in church contexts and/or who are close to someone who has.
Why are you running for this position?
I began attending General Conventions in 2009 (with TransEpiscopal, the Consultation coalition of Episcopal justice groups, and Campus/Young Adult Ministry presences), and feel strongly that Convention impacts lives in our dioceses and congregations. I was proud to serve on DioCal’s deputation this quadrennium and collaborated on several resolutions that Convention passed, including one creating a Director of LBGTQI and Women’s Ministries on the churchwide staff, a position that could powerfully impact people across our church. I would be honored to be part of DioCal’s deputation for the 2024 General Convention to continue contributing to this group’s collaborative, justice-oriented work.

In my opinion the major issues facing the church today are
I think the decline in church membership and the viability of our parishes is on everyone’s mind right now. Figuring out how to survive is critical work. We cannot, however, look to our future without reckoning with our past. Our ability to thrive and spread the gospel is dependent on knowing who we are. That means repenting of and providing restitution for our long association with empire and committing ourselves fully to being the Jesus movement in the 21st century. It also means making sure our members have the spiritual and practical tools to actively love God and our neighbors.
Why are you running for this position?
The Episcopal Church is at a critical juncture in our history and we need representatives who both understand our current polity and have the ability and energy to move the church into the future. My experiences as Secretary of Executive Council and President of the Standing Committee have given me a clear understanding of Episcopal polity and the ability to work collaboratively in church governance. I have experience providing written and verbal communications with both large and small groups, within and outside the Episcopal denomination. I hope to share these gifts in the service of The Episcopal Church.

In my opinion the major issues facing the church today are
Aside from the realities of ministry and life that the Covid-19 pandemic has brought to all our lives the church is facing the continuing reality of the changing cultural and political landscape of the current age. We are deeply attached to traditions and systems that worked well for the 20th century, but most now embark on making the necessary adjustments for evangelizing the 21st century.
Why are you running for this position?
I believe it’s essential that people of a wide diversity of backgrounds and walks of life participate in the councils and conversations of the church. I think that I bring a unique perspective to the conversations of our Diocese and The Episcopal Church, and I offer it humble to the glory and by the grace of God.
